Connecting the OpenAI pixel to your platform
ChatGPT now shows ads, and OpenAI's pixel tells the advertiser which of those ads led to a sale. Installed on your platform, it reports what a visitor does after clicking your ad: the products added to the cart, the checkout started and the purchase completed.
OpenAI then counts those sales against the ad that brought them, so you can see which ads earn what they cost and which ones to stop.

OpenAI pixel on your platform
The sale and the steps before it
Products added to the cart, checkouts started and completed purchases reach OpenAI with their amount and products, alongside every page the visitor opens.
From the browser and the server
With a Conversions API key added, your platform also sends each conversion from its own server, so a purchase is still counted when the buyer's browser blocks the pixel.
One sale counted once
The browser and the server send the same conversion under one shared identifier, and OpenAI merges the two copies instead of counting the sale twice.
With the rest of your platform
The ad click stays on the order
The reference OpenAI adds to the ad link is saved on the order at checkout, so a payment confirmed later by the payment provider is still credited to the ad.
Amounts in the order's own currency
Each amount is sent in the currency of the order and at that currency's own decimal places, so a sale in dinars and a sale in riyals are reported at their real value.
Buyer details hashed before sending
The buyer's email, phone number and name are hashed on your platform's server before the server copy is sent, as OpenAI's Conversions API requires.
Before you switch it on
- OpenAI decides the countries where ChatGPT ads can be bought, and your ad account in OpenAI Ads Manager shows whether yours is among them.
- The pixel needs a plan that includes pixel integrations, and it works alongside the Meta, TikTok and Snapchat pixels when those are installed too.
- Product views and new sign-ups are reported from the server only, so they are sent only when a Conversions API key is added.
The installation steps are in the help centre
The pixel is installed from the Apps page of your dashboard, with the Pixel ID from OpenAI Ads Manager and, if you want server-side tracking, a Conversions API key. The help centre covers installing pixel apps.
Open the help centreCommon questions
- Do I need a developer or to paste code?
- No. You enter the Pixel ID in the app's settings, and your platform adds the pixel to every page of your storefront and sends the events itself.
- Is the Conversions API key required?
- No. The pixel works from the browser without it. The key adds the server copy, which keeps purchases counted when a browser blocks tracking scripts.
- Can I use it with the Meta and TikTok pixels?
- Yes. Each pixel is a separate app, and every installed pixel receives the same events under the same identifiers.
- Does OpenAI receive my buyers' email addresses?
- Not in plain text. The server copy carries them hashed, which lets OpenAI match a conversion to an ad click without reading the address itself.
- What happens when I remove the app?
- The pixel stops loading on your storefront and your platform stops sending events to OpenAI from that moment.
